Chapter Information
The AAPS-University of Minnesota student chapter members participate in
numerous events throughout the year, ranging from scientific seminars and skill
development workshops to social outings. All activities are planned and
organized by committee members with the goals of promoting student participation
in AAPS activities, increasing scientific knowledge, enhancing professional skills,
and encouraging interaction among chapter members. Since its inception in 2002,
chapter membership has expanded to include postdoctoral fellows and graduate
students from other programs at the University of Minnesota, such as Experimental
and Clinical Pharmacology, Medicinal Chemistry, and Material Science.
Specific Program Goals, Objectives, and Procedures of the UMN Student Chapter
The U of MN Student Chapter was established in 2002 and since then the
chapter's activities and membership have been evolving. Initially only members
in the Department of Pharmaceutics participated in the chapter. However, due to
a close relationship with Experimental and Clinical Pharmacology the chapter has
slowly become more diverse. Now the chapter is actively recruiting members from
all departments in the College of Pharmacy, engineering, and material sciences.
The mission of the Chapter is (1) to increase student participation in the AAPS
activities at local, regional and national level; (2) to increase student
awareness of the latest advances and discoveries in the pharmaceutical and
non-pharmaceutical sciences area; (3) to increase student awareness of career
opportunities; (4) to provide students with opportunities for professional
advancement and leadership development; (5) to provide students with
non-pharmaceutical background, opportunities to interact with professionals in
the pharmaceutical sciences area; (6) to foster participation in outreach
activities that further the goals and objectives of AAPS.
