2008 AAPS National Biotechnology Conference Graduate Student Symposium


Graduate Student Symposium Application Form
Application Deadline has been extended to February 12, 2008

AAPS is pleased to announce the Graduate Student Symposium to be held at the 2008 AAPS National Biotechnology Conference, June 22-25, in Toronto, Canada. The program is designed to recognize excellence in graduate education in the fields of pharmaceutical biotechnology.

Nomination Requirements
  1. You must submit your abstract in accordance with the AAPS National Biotechnology Conference Call for Papers. Submissions are made electronically by using the online submission site at .
  2. A summary (1,000 words or less including tables/figures) that will provide the selection committee with information to evaluate your dissertation research on the basis of: (a) contribution to the area of research represented, i.e., why was the work important and what new knowledge was derived with data to support claims; (b) novelty and originality of the research; (c) the specialty areas of laboratory research used in the thesis program; (d) summary of overall results and conclusion; and, (e) further studies proposed to build on the knowledge derived. Summaries longer than three (3) pages will not be considered.
  3. All nominations must indicate acknowledgment of any financial support received which enabled the research to be conducted.
  4. All of the above-required information must be sent as a single pdf file and submitted to AAPS by February 12, 2008. (A single Microsoft Word file will be acceptable if pdf capability is not available.) Failure to submit in the proper format will be subject to return without consideration. The award title must be indicated in the subject line of the email. MAILED OR FAXED NOMINATIONS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.
  5. If your paper is not selected for the graduate symposium and you would like to present your research at the 2008 AAPS National Biotechnology Conference, please indicate this on the nomination form.

Selection Procedures

Students in their final year of graduate studies leading to the Ph.D. degree (or who are awarded their Ph.D. in 2008) will be selected to participate in the symposium by the AAPS Selection Committee on the basis of abstracts submitted to the committee. Applicants in one of the above or associated fields of study may be nominated by their Ph.D. thesis advisor on the form provided. On the basis of submitted abstracts and summaries, students will be selected to present their research during the Graduate Symposium at the AAPS National Biotechnology Conference. Selection will be made on the basis of those students judged by the committee to have provided the most outstanding contributions in the above fields through their graduate research. Each student selected will receive a cash award of $250.00 and a complimentary National Biotechnology Conference registration. In addition, travel expenses will be reimbursed (maximum $1,000 domestic/$1,500 international) following the meeting.
